Edward Raftesath

GRADUATE-AT-LAW

Edward graduated from the Australia National University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Philosophy, Politics and Economics. He commenced working at Harmers in 2023 as a graduate-at-law.

Edward is passionate about the ability of the law to create a fairer, safer society. During the last year of his studies, Edward worked part time as a paralegal at Legal Aid ACT on the helpline, which involved providing legal information to new potential clients of Legal Aid ACT. The work gave Edward exposure to a broad variety of legal matters and impressed upon him that access to quality legal assistance can have life-changing consequences.

Prior to Legal Aid, Edward worked at a boutique employment firm as a paralegal, where he enjoyed gaining an insight into the fast-paced work of litigation.

Edward has also volunteered at the international human rights group Walk Free. He was part of a select group of students from the Australian National University chosen to undertake a research internship into modern slavery in the garment industry. Edward’s research focused on the impact of the purchasing practices of major clothing brands on modern slavery risks. The research was used to develop the compliance metrics through which Walk Free monitors the actions of major corporations.

Outside of work Edward is a sports fanatic. He particularly likes football (soccer – the real football as Edward would tell you) which he enjoys both playing and coaching, although he also keeps a close eye on all things cricket, rugby union and tennis.
