Joellen Munton

EXECUTIVE COUNSEL & TEAM LEADER

Joellen (also known as Joellen Riley) was admitted to practice in NSW in 1997, after an early career as a finance journalist. She holds degrees in law from the University of Sydney and the University of Oxford.

After a short time in practice with a large commercial law firm, Joellen joined the University of Sydney Law school as a legal academic. Her academic career includes many years teaching and researching in the fields of employment and industrial law. From 2013 to 2018, Joellen served as the Dean of Sydney Law School, and is presently a part-time Professor of Law at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Joellen is the author of many books and journal articles, including Labour Law: An Introduction to the Law of Work (OUP, 2021), and is one of the authors of Macken’s Law of Employment (7th ed 2011, 8th ed 2016).  She sits on the executive of the Australian Institute of Employment Rights.

Joellen provides advice to clients across all of the firm’s practice areas, including areas such as award and contractual interpretation, and provides high-level advice internally and externally.   She also provides legal updates and training to both the firm’s legal staff and clients on current legal developments.
